Catheter Instructions

Please consult your physician for instructions for use. These are general instructions, not specific to an individual’s special needs.

1. Wash hands.
2. Open kit.
3. Gloves and underpad may be used for protection if necessary.
4. Remove the cap from the introducer tip and slide the catheter to within 1/8” (2 mm) of the top of the silicon tip. Be careful NOT to slide the catheter past the introducer tip yet.
5. MALES:  Clean urethral meatus and surrounding area with antiseptic swab sticks provided. With the non-dominant hand hold the penis steady at the base of the glans. With the dominant hand insert the introducer tip into the urethra. Hold it securely in place with the thumb and forefinger of the non-dominant hand, while still grasping the base of the penis with the remaining fingers. Once you have steadied the penis and secured the introducer tip in place, use the dominant hand to grasp the catheter through the bag close to the base of the introducer shaft and slowly push it through the introducer tip and into the urethra. Continue to slide the catheter through the urethra in short 2-3 inch movements until the catheter reaches the bladder and urine begins to flow.
   
   FEMALES: Clean urethral meatus and surrounding area with antiseptic swab sticks provided by holding the outer labia apart.  With the non-dominant hand hold inner labia apart, using the dominant hand to insert the introducer tip into the urethra. Secure it in place with thumb and forefinger of the non-dominant hand. Use the dominant hand to grasp the catheter through the bag close to the base of the introducer shaft. Slowly push it through the introducer tip and into the urethra. Continue to slide the catheter through the urethra in short 2-3 inch movements until the catheter reaches the bladder and urine begins to flow.
6. When urine drainage is complete, slowly withdraw introducer tip and catheter from urethra.
7. To empty bag, tear downwards at perforation located at top of bag above “To Empty Tear Here” and pour out urine through opening.
8. Dispose of bag properly.
